What we found in Battambang, Cambodia 2017

We found something quite unusual in Battambang, that filled us with both sadness and hope simultaneously. Firstly I should probably say Battambang found us for a change- we received a request for shoes for the children of Battambang dump site from a German NGO called TKG. We found that they already had a phase 2- a Child Support Centre that provided food, hygiene and education. From 64 to 0 children on Takhmao dump.

Returning to Takhmao Dump, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with photographer Joost Vandebrug was the first time I have seen a totally childfree dump. Joost looked around and exclaimed ‘but there are no kids to shoot’. Romania: Steps off the Dump for Children, Mothers and Babies

We recently returned to Cluj in Romania, to see how things were progressing with our new project at Pata Rat dump. We were pleased to see steps being taken towards some great changes for the children on the dump. We are absolutely delighted to announce that our Phase 2 sustainable project in Takhmao, Cambodia has been funded by Comic Relief! This is great news for Small Steps Project, and of course our partners in Cambodia- Mlop Children’s Centre and their UK arm Safe Haven Children’s Trust.
