We are absolutely delighted to announce that our Phase 2 sustainable project in Takhmao, Cambodia has been funded by Comic Relief! This is great news for Small Steps Project, and of course our partners in Cambodia- Mlop Children’s Centre and their UK arm Safe Haven Children’s Trust.

Comic Relief has just started funding projects in Cambodia and one of the first it has chosen to support is a Small Steps Dump Project!

SSP social worker has been busy collecting all the names of the children on the dump.

Back in summer 2013 Safe Haven alerted us to a dump site in the area where their centre  Mlop, is based to see if we could work together to provide care and support to the children on the dump. Mlop run a day centre and crisis care for 0-6 year olds as well as a social enterprise for parents called Mlop Works. In November together we delivered a Phase 1 Shoe Distribution then, based on the data we collected on that we  devised a project to care for little children at the Mlop centre and older children through outreach.

It is this project that Comic Relief have funded for the next two and a half years and, thanks to that funding and the dedicated team at Mlop we will be able to change, not only the every day lives, but also the futures of the children and young people on Takhmao dump, supporting them to take small steps off the dump and break the cycle of poverty in which they are trapped.
