Elsie Atkinson’s small steps…

Elsie Atkinson got in touch with us earlier this year because she’d come across Small Steps Project and wanted to take her own small steps by collecting shoes from all of the year six students at her school to donate to our dump project in Romania. She did this by organising with her head of year a “wear your own shoes to school” day where her year would wear their own shoes and donate their school shoes to children without shoes on one of our projects.

She also organised some fundraising activities and managed to raise over £80 for us to spend on socks to go with the 130 pairs of shoes she successfully collected. As if all that wasn’t enough Elsie then organised transportation of the shoes out to a depot near our Romania project! So, a huge thank you to Elsie and all the year sixes at Crofton Junior School – your brilliant efforts illustrate perfectly how small steps can make big differences to the lives of dozens of children at the Pata Rat dump in Cluj-Napoca.

Check back here for an update later this month once we’ve distributed Elsie’s shoes and socks…
