Thida's first paintingdrawing lesson 2Small Steps Project (SSP) and our project partner in Cambodia-Let Us Create (LUC) are putting on an art exhibition of the children’s paintings at Highgate Gallery on Tuesday 9th July from 6-8pm. LUC, formerly the Cambodian Children’s Painting project (CCPP), began as a safe place where the childen could go to paint. It has now grown into a wonderful day centre for over 100 children who attend classes in centre as well as at school, recieve medical care and nutritious meals as well as clean clothes and of course- shoes. The younger ones attend the Small Steps Nursery and Creche, the mothers train in the mother’s group and the families all recieve a rice fund for getting their children to come to the centre instead of scavenging. Thanks to our partnership and to all of you who have donated to us, we are now able to go a step further than just providing shoes, by getting children off the dumps and streets and into a safe place where they can play and get an education. However at its core is a fantastic art therapy programe which all the children really enjoy and now you can see the art produced by the children who have joined through our dump outreach programme. You can also buy the art to help raise funds, so that we can keep children off dumps and swap scavenging for painting by coming to this exhibition. Our documentary ‘Next Steps’ will also be screened at the event, so incase you were not part of the 170,000 people who had the chance to see it screened at Glastonbury… you can see it on Tuesday. So come along, bring your friend and show your support!
