Sihanoukville, Cambodia 2013 | Nursery Project AT LUC (42)
Thanks to funding from Scott Dunn and space and skills from Let Us Create, this year we were able to set up a fantastic sustainable early years provision for scavenger children from age 0-6 years old. The Early years provision is divided into three spaces: a creche for babies, a nursery for 3-6 yr olds and a sleep room. The majority of the children from the dump are of nursery age, and they attend the nursery with other scavenger children LUC cares for from the beach and streets. The older children from the dump outreach join the classes in the main centre and next we will be starting a Mum's project. But everyone of any age loves trips outside and the nursery children are no exception! -
Sihanoukville, Cambodia 2013 | Nutrition Project (14)
Our in-country partner project is the fantastic Let Us Create which provides care to some of the most vulnerable scavenger children from the streets and beaches of Sihanoukville Cambodia. Collaborating with Let Us Create and thanks to a generous donation from Solgar, providing vitamins and Optibac, who provided probiotics we were able to set up a Breakfast Club to provide the children the vitamins and supplements they are desperate for. -
Siem Reap, Cambodia 2012 | SSP & ODA Uniform Collaboration (31)
SSP and ODA collaborated on a big uniform drive to start the new term and new year. ODA provided new school uniforms for all the children attending the local free schools in rural Siem Reap as well as the children attending the ODA centre and SSP matched them with shoes. Volunteer Paula Harper was there to size, buy and fit over 300 children with new shoes. To find out more about this project check out Paula's story on Amy's blog. -
Romania 2012 | Shoes and Clothing delivery (12)
SSP partnered with Love Light Romania who works on numerous projects with some of the poorest, most vulnerable children in Romania, some who live in the railway, some who are ferrel and some who scavenge for survival, they also run a project for children suffering with HIV. Thanks to all the amazing SSP supporters, who generously donated shoes and clothes, we were able to send 19 big boixes of aid to Romania in time for Love Light Romania to distribute to all the children in time for Christmas. INDIA 2012 | WHAT WE DID (15)
When volunteer, Jen, visited the various sites for future projects, she was so concerned at the lack of hygiene and school supplies that she delivered aid, whilst she was researching including food, clothes, shoes and hygiene products. SSP plans to do a larger distribution project using Jen's findings. Photographer: Tom Evangelidis -

Tibar Dump, Timor Lest, 2012 | What We Found (21)
We visited the Tibar dump several times before delivering two distribution projects. we found varying numbers of scavengers ranging from as few as 3 to as many as 100. We also found numerous huts and structures which the scavengers had built to escape the sun. Several of these were inhabited. Photographers: Tom Evangelidis and Nicholas Molyneaux -
Siem Reap, Cambodia 2012 | What we found (53)
Though what we found at Siem Reap Dump was unpleasant, what was unusual about this dump was the excellent facility, within walking distance to the dump which provides schooling, food, water, a creche and medical centre. The dump dwellers tend not to tell people about this facility but they are being helped and the children well cared for, the aid is well managed and we would recommend that anyone visiting Siem Reap donates to this organisation. Friends International Projects (32)
Small Steps Project visits Anlong Pi, and the Vocational Centre http://friends-international.org/wherewework/cambodia.asp We did not deliver a project to this dump because of the amazing work and centre run by Friends International, who even haver a wellington boot swap. This time instead of shoes, we provided a school bus to drive the older children from the dump to the training centre so that they could find alternative employment to scavenging. The younger children attend the Anlong Pi day centre. Photographers: Amy Hanson, Hannah Hughes and Alex Smith -
Sihanoukville, Cambodia 2012 | What We Found (29)
In March 2012 we returned to the dump community to who we delivered a project to in 2010. Unfortunately the dump had moved locations, making it even more inaccessible than it once was. The dump is now out of walking distance to the nearest shelter and the nearest school. Photographers: Amy Hanson, Hannah Hughes and Alex Smith -
Sihanoukville, Cambodia, 2012 | What We Found & Did at Sareka House (23)
In 2012 the our team revisited the Sihanoukville Dump where we had delivered a distribution project in 2010. Since then the dump has moved locations. Sareka was formerly the shelter closest to the dump. Some children were still attending. When we arrived we gave it a good clean up and kitted it out with new things, shoes, clothes, uniform and food. We are currently working on providing a new centre for the Sihanoukville dump children, in walking distance to the new dump location. Photographers: Amy Hanson, Hannah Hughes and Alex Smith -
