Steve McQueen broke many records, not only becoming the first black man to win an Oscar for Best Picture, but also the first person in history to win both an Academy Award and the Turner Prize (1999).
McQueen began his career as a video artist and was appointed a CBE for his services to the visual arts. McQueen later moved to film directing, and rose to success through films such as Hunger (2008), Shame (2011), and the critically acclaimed Twelve Years a Slave, the film that gained him numerous awards throughout 2013 and ’14.
The shoes that McQueen has donated this year were worn at BAFTA in 2014. They are Prada and are a size 11.
